Health Information Coder – Temporary Full-Time and Casual

The Health Information Coder performs detailed clinical analysis of inpatient, same day surgery and ambulatory (National Ambulatory Care Reporting System) health records using the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Canada (ICD-10-CA) and the Canadian Classification of Health Interventions (CCI) diagnostic and intervention codes to facilitate resource planning, resource utilization, statistics, clinical research, and related audits. 

Rate of Pay:   $22.348/hour to $27.935/hour
Hours of Work:    37.5 hours per week

Job Qualifications

•Successful completion of a two year Health Information Management Diploma
•Currently Certified with the Canadian Health Information Management Association
•Member in good standing with CHIMA
•Minimum of one year recent related job experience
•Recent inpatient coding experience preferred
•Intermediate skill in computer programs such as MS Office 2010 (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), and Internet (CIHI online query, Postal Code lookup)
•Demonstrated advance skill in Folio (ICD-10-CA, CCI)
•Demonstrated skill in Cerner Patient Registration (ADT) system/PowerChart and Cactus Abstracting System
•Basic skill in Crystal Report Writing
•Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology
•Proficient understanding of CIHI indices and comparative reports
•Proficient understanding of the complicated funding formulas involving CMG, CACS, and RIW
•Exemplary communication skills, both written and oral
•Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
•Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and as an effective team member
•Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
•Demonstrated organization and time management skills
•Demonstrated flexibility and ability to manage change
•Demonstrated ability to provide principals of patient family centred care
•Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
•Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
